I sit here writing this in Summer Moon coffee shop, ironically, on the day of the solar eclipse! I just made my husband, Blake, facetime me so we could "watch" it together even though neither of us had the right special glasses haha but a nice stranger let me borrow his so I could see it! Pretty freakin cool!!!
Back to this outfit...one day I stopped by one of my favorite little coffee/taco/convenient stores "Quickie Pickie" and decided to walk on over to Charm School Vintage - favorite of mine in the Austin area. I usually find myself looking at the racks for what feels like hours but then I get lazy to try anything on... however that day was different bc it was a Saturday where I didn't have much going on. I browsed the racks and found these AMAZE yellow shorts and I could tell they were high waisted and I had been looking for some "mom shorts" for summer where I didn't feel like my butt was hanging out, sooo I decided I would actually try these on. They fit like a GLOVE. I was SO pumped! Then I kept perusing and found this fun button cropped shirt with a drawstring around the waist. I knew this would pair well with the shorts and also just a good basic for some high-waisted denim (my fave). Anywaaay.. I later found this cutie vintage straw bag with gold thread on it from the 60s via Pieceology Vintage. I plan to do a feature on her shop soon! So stay tuned :)
I am not one to just go for some mustard yellow shorts but for the perfect fit and price, I went for it! I had also just gone this clothing swap where women spoke up about fast fashion and how we just waste so much and how most of your clothes just end up in landfills etc so I wanted to start buying more vintage.
I still LOVE trends and I love to style outfits with a bit of edge but I also have a strong draw toward timeless pieces these days. I want all of Esby and Reformation but can't afford it SO I am consciously buying items I know I will wear more than a year and trying to buy more basics because those are the items I've kept in my closet the longest. I realized also this summer that it's hard to buy "basics" for summer. Other than denim cut-offs.. its hard for me to style a good outfit for summer without just throwing on a cute dress. Its hard for me to piece an outfit together that I actually love because I realized I don't have very many basic tanks or tops. I am search of those currently :) haha | SO I think finding pieces that are fun to mix and match like this ivory button-down and these mustard shorts - you can go mod or more casual and pair with slip-ons or cute tennis.

I asked my friend Courtney Pittman to take some photos of me down on south congress and we realized it was a whole color story. Not my usual neutral outfit but I do love me some yellow.
